It's TV Time again!!! Join Matt as he acts like your personal TV guide. Television has been a great asset in learning the highs and lows of making serial entertainment. Modern media (Netflix, Amazon, Hulu) has learned from many of those lessons and started with a bang. Even Youtube is making original content. What a great time to absorb tons of visual fluff!! Staycations are now a possibility to catch up on your queue and binge some new shows at home. The quality of the home entertainment flood has increased drastically in the last decade or so. TV isn't necessarily in its death throes, but it is closer than some desire we imagine. Slip your shoes off & enjoy some joy over the babble box.
Our twitter is @CinemaSluts if you wanna find us there!!
Just for you peeps - Matt looked up the writers for Supergirl after all: half of 18 are women. Shane Black only wrote the 1st 2 LW films (3 & 4 were character writing credits). We discussed Jeffrey Wright in Casino Royale. He & Thandie Newton were in W (Powell & Rice), just in case you haven't had enough political input this year (wink wink nudge nudge).
Correction: Death style contractors are not a thing; Death STAR contractors was what he meant to say (as in Clerks - also applies to the thankless jizzmopper job).

What's this you ask?? It's a bit o' TV Time!!
While setting up for a delayed episode, we opted to give you a slice of what we watch when we aren't doin' flicks for you lovely folks. The majority of these shows are in fact Netflix original content, as they have been leading the pack in creating original ideas and remaking a thing or two that failed. There are some cable shows mentioned also that Matt recently finished (Echo Base didn't quite get to finishing SOA together). This decade is fast becoming a new Golden Age of television-style serial shows.
INTRO/OUTRO: Death Bed Confession - get their stuff on iTunes, Spirit, Google Play, Pandora. Awesome band from Denver!!
BTW, Chris & Matt are working through the 3rd Season of Arrow. Chris couldn't get through the Flash, but Matt really dug it (it's worth getting through the 1st half for the 2nd half of the 1st season). Like Netflix, the 2 shows have different tones, so it doesn't feel like the same show with different costumes (except the certain writing moments when it does
EDIT 8/21: Matt finished Arrow S3 - a nice ramp-up over the season; he almost gave up, glad he didn't. He also finished Stranger Things & it is greeeaaaatt!!! Stick it through for the 2nd half.
Here is the filthy Deadwood vid: CS
Thankfully, someone also put the Robot Chicken clips together: White Wine

Is it over yet?! After this, yes - for now... but go see Civil War (it's still in theaters as of 6/26). Our last Marvel installment, finally. Whew!! We'll get away from costumes & explosions for a while, we swears on the precious. No fantasy either!! We will honor the latest of our fallen cinematic comrades next episode.
Despite some of the back & forth moments in this episode about tidbits & their implications, this movie remains for the Triforce Folk one of the strongest Marvel movies. Twice the Iron Man films have devoted attention to powerful enemies: those on the inside. PTSD is actually portrayed in this movie! Even those who like/love this movie admit to it being at odds with the other Marvel films, likely exactly as Shane Black intended. If anyone ever said it feels like a Lethal Weapon movie with RDJ; um, sure... in the most awesome of ways!! Listen as we go deep into the grooves of this wonderful bizarro superhero departure.
Here's a great promo for IM3 that was almost the episode pic: Paltrow Pic
As to the art used - msg us on FB & we'll tell you where to go. It's a secret on this particular post for reasons..
NOTE: To clarify our collective thoughts on Spiderman: The boast of the best is the Representation of the character - which can't trump the full-length films, but the way that Karl Urban captured Bones that you knew him before he said his name... we thought Tom Holland nailed it with very little time to work with. Perhaps Matt dug it most.
Gwyneth Paltrow - Se7en
.Terence Howard - William Sadler - Ben Kingsley
Here is the 1st Marvel compilation we did with the 1st Avengers - Marvel Week
*This episode covered Ultron, Ant-Man, Jurassic World & Rogue Nation - Summer Spectacular.

This week, we take you down the path where the Fox lives. As it lives, it chokes out so much potential from various franchises & series. Is it better now than it was when they took hold of Xmen nearly 20 years ago (we know, right?!) ? Put on some leather & spandex and tune in to find out... We will say up front that the newer Xmen films have managed to attach new faces to characters that we can love (Lawrence, Fass & Mac).
Apocalypse thoughts. Matt had fun and liked Oscar Isaac's performance better than the trailers. Characters were under-used; if we look at ladies, Civil War did it better. His take was that Marvel lapped itself in the month of May, but really they lapped Fox.
While spending less than Marvel for CA Civil War (see our thoughts in the write-up for the last episode below), it made about 1/3 in its opening weekend.

Whelp - so much for the short discussions for the moment. We had to break up the Marvel talk into 3 episodes, as looking over the studios took up some time. Stay tuned for more over the next month.
Spiderman 2 was a powerful followup to a movie that shook the earth with staggering numbers for its theater run. Was it big, listen bud - it made 114 of 137 million back by the 1st weekend!! X-men did 54 of 75 million 2 years before on its opening. Don't let their standing reputations undo the frantic success of their comparative openings. This one made 114 of 200 million its 1st weekend & easily cleared the budget since then. How well does it hold up? Listen in & hear how we see it after more than a decade.
As for Civil War: David & Matt both felt it was a great movie that managed to balance the characters (even new ones) pretty well. The new Spiderman was fantastic & definitely Matt's favorite representation thus far. Black Panther is awesome, Boseman knocked that outta the park (catch that 42 reference, hey - we covered that in episode 159
). Keep it up, Marvel proper. Apocalypse: we'll hit that next episode...

Episodes IV & V (VI will be the next episode)
Finally what some of you have been waiting for - a look at the sleeper hit series of the 70's & 80's. Even those who have avoided seeing Star Wars films cannot deny how enTRENCHed they are in the social psyche. Apparently they mean so much to us that we couldn't wrangle them into a single episode!
This may feel a bit different, as there is a significance beyond just viewing the films. With this & the upcoming episode, we discuss some of the social phenomena along with personal experiences surrounding the films.
With few small exceptions, we actually don't spoil it for those who may opt to watch them after hearing us babble on about them.. we won't FORCE anyone to see them, of course.
Naturally, we used as many opportunities to include songs from the late great Prince - a terrible loss to powerful, lasting music coming from a man unafraid of looking and being exactly what he wanted..

Avengers: Age of Ultron/
Mad Max: Fury Road/
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation/
Straight Outta Compton (now fully discussed in #180!!)/
*also a bit of TV hero talk - not something we do a lot..*
We mention Pitch Perfect 2 & Tomorrowland, though we had not seen them.
Another blockbuster parade has come & gone. Now we deliver to you our list of what made this summer worth watching. While having its fair share of strikes & gutters, this year nevertheless delivered.
Marvel is now in full swing and the other studios are frantically striving to touch that high water mark. One could argue that there’s never been a better time to be a movie goer. Action, sci-fi, adventure, drama, intrigue, heist & heart alike; Heck, even a Jedi will crave these things come the end of the year! We sluts be fans. What are we fans of all we discuss, you ask?
Well, tune in & find out. Come on, dooo ittt!! Listen, we're heeere!!

Hop aboard to hear of international fare as your globe trottin' sluts cruise the world in our official Cinema Triforce "Self-Sustaining Hot-Air" balloon. (Get it? 'Cause we talk a lot and we're full of hot air...right?)
Tired of American movies & reality, we outsourced our topic to save money and sanity. Our wanderlust took us from 中华 (China) to भारत (India) and finally came to a halt in Norge (Norway). With such an eclectic blend of cinema, we had our work cut out for us. We leave it to you to enjoy one hell of a fun episode. Plus, we made extra effort not to spoil anything this week, so if you haven't - SCREEN these flicks ASAP.
PS: Trollhunter IS on Netflix.
PPS: Happy Pride!! Have a Coke & sing in perfect harmony, dammit!! Actually, drink Pepsi - they are ethically a better company to support for sugar-water.

Carnage & chrome abound as we scream from the internet rooftop our love of the ever-evolving modern-day "Action" movie. As children of the 70's & 80's, sometimes it's difficult for us avoid the obvious comparisons (we're looking at you, Jason Momoa Conan
). However, we can still be surprised, and this week's choices certainly knocked the wind outta all four of our lungs.
As a versus-style episode, this one is more about the strong suits of each to guide you toward what you might prefer (though you should have already watched both, you slackers
). Do Chris & I agree?? Listen & find out! Then write in and tell what we said; we already forgot.. 'cause we're busy watchin' these movies again.
Hardcore note: The 'get outta my car' is from the Hoff. Here is the full glory of that video for those who have missed his renaissance. Also, here is a Henry Rollins clip that we almost used for that moment.. classic Hank. Here is totally classic Winger for those interested.

Pixar indeed stands tall amongst the world of modern day animation. Heck, we even dedicated a whole episode to their genius. However, one must not overlook the competition that has steadily been catching up creatively over the years. Since 1998, Dreamworks animation has delivered 30+ films that (with the exception of one) have turned quite a profit. So it's obvious that there's an audience for animation beyond the safety of They-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named.
Dreamworks has made strides outside the "kid appropriate" box,as well as keeping in step with social progressive attitudes (from Hiccup being handicapped, to Gobber being gay). Their trust in the modern audience has paid off and they won't be stopping anytime soon..
Dreamworks do in fact live up to their moniker and we couldn't be more pleased with the results.
PS: For those paying attention, here's the episode of Heat Vision & Jack that we named in the episode.

As mentioned last week, we're widdlin' down the episodes to ever other week, but that doesn't mean we won't deliver more content on occasion.
So, in that vein, we give you another youtube Mini-Sode comprised of some of the best parts from our second Arnold episode.
Enjoy & watch responsibly:

It is the ultimate eternal face off!! Those who thought Dracula was dead were deceiving themselves. It was just a matter of when. With many different faces surrounded by black & red capes over the decades, the appeal of the concept crystallized by Bram Stoker will live forever in some form or other. As the 'other' category of Dracula is punched this year, we felt it was our duty to check out the new blood (insert The Who clip here) to see how it measured up. Can it cut it??
As the weeks of October blow away, we couldn't go without this comparison. For those who enjoy the horror, we have 2 more weeks!! For those who don't, please listen to our earlier episodes in the meanwhile.
*Notes: the adult film screening we briefly refer to had friends in it; it isn't like we're gonna start a series about it...
The legitimate trailer is up top for 1992, but we did find one comparable to the antics of the 1931 trailer. See that here
. Also, here are a few moments from the promised Looney Tunes Dracula sketch

: Hitting the mat swinging for this round, Matt unloads on your ears with a volley of varying styles: Ninjutsu, Sinanju (no relation). Hell, he may even pull out an ancient medieval sci-fi weapon to finish you off by the end. Who knows...
Amidst the deluge of 80's nostalgia that hit us during this episode, we actually had an epiphany. Regarding the "quality" controversy that envelops much of the home entertainment market nowadays, we're of the opinion that a few misaligned pixels ain't nothing on a 3rd generation JVC copy of Super Fuzz
. You don't know a bad picture until you've had auto-tracking recorded on the copy you copied from the friend who copied it off the TV. Audio: we're happy we don't have to fight through white noise just to hear the best jokes.

The air grows cooler and Autumn is nigh! Luckily, we've got one more sunny season selection for you ladies & gentlemen.
With this last sweet, sweet helping of Summer fun, we found a little something for everyone: raccoons, octopuses, apes. Man, there are a lot more goodies folded into these three flicks, but if we delved further, we'd be spoiling the episode! And you don't want us doing that, do you?
Thanks to all our avid listeners for giving us the excuse to spend these beautiful summer months entombed in the air conditioned confines of the movie church.
BTW: Here's Chris Pratt rattling off Enimem like it ain't no thang

Adam West -VS- Michael Keaton
It's been 75 years since the Dark Knight first breached the collective consciousnesses of the world. Now, eight decades, multiple re-brandings & tens of thousands of pages later, the crusade of the caped continues.
For those of us who adore film, the lore of the Worlds Greatest Detective has also born some choice pieces; two of which are the highlight of this week's episode. While we reached our own conclusion regarding the fate of this bout, remember this doesn't make us "Right."
That's the wonderful thing about Batman: no matter what medium or version you prefer him in, he's still frekkin BATMAN... and he's so F#$%ing tough (that's right).
P.S. : Here be the Grayson trailer we mentioned in the episode. AWESOME!
