Episode #82: Sketch-Comedy Flicks

August 31st, 2013
  • The State's Wet Hot American Summer
  • Kids in the Hall's Brain Candy
  • Saturday Night Live's MacGruber!

  • For a while there, you could only get 1 or 2 sketch troupes at a time on the tube.  Thanks to the interwebs, sketch comedy has exploded over the past 15 years.  From The Whitest Kids You Know to Key & Peele, MAD TV to In Living Color, the list goes on & on.  All great news for the audience, since (Viva) variety suits this medium well.

The love of such shows is kinda what brought us together in the first place.  The random blurting out of a favorite quote may just catch a friendly ear & next thing you know: you're hosting a podcast together.  Luckily for us, three such shows have gone on to make fun films.

Different decades, different humor, and often a difference of opinions.  Comedy is so personal that we tend to avoid it as a stand-alone topic.  This idea worked in another way, though.  Writing for 5 minutes of funny is not at all like writing for 90 minutes.  See how these groups pulled it off.
