  • The Misguided (Katherine Langford)/
  • The Ice Man (Michael Shannon)/
  • Logan Lucky (Daniel Craig)/

Behold!  Another venture fanning out from a movie in the theaters to see what else the actors have been in.  Plenty o' Bond films, but did you SEE Logan Lucky?!  Maybe you should - see what Matt has to say aboot it.

ALSO - go see Knives Out with the fam:  a hilariously good experience.

Episode #269: Xtreme Sports

September 3rd, 2019
  • Thrashin'/
  • Soul Surfer/
  • Rad/

In this episode we cover some sports Matt was too lazy to ever get good at doing.  Actually, that's a wide list, but these were of interest while we sometimes settle for enjoying them through others or through movies that showcase them.  Incidentally a perfect choice to round out the summer & coincide with Matt seeing the Beach Boys live!!  Soak it in, fellow sluts!

Links:  Logan (has all Beltrami links).

Notes:  Thrashin' is actually 67%, the other 2 are 70%.

Episode #258: PrEnd Game

April 2nd, 2019
  • Room (Brie Larson)
  • Atomic Blonde (James McAvoy)
  • The Soloist (Robert Downey, Jr.)

The title doesn't work as well as "Prefinity War," but hopefully you get the point...  This time we're giving you other movies some MCU stars have been in.  Xavier isn't likely in Endgame, but the uncertainty of X-men & their current stars is a hot topic with Fox purchased by Disney so a crossover is now possible.

3 very different genres.  3 splendid examples of how these actors are more than merely their Marvel counterparts.  We even included a movie based on real people.  Enjoy the departure as we finally take a break from directly talking about Marvel!!

LINKS:  Short Term 12 (has links for Scott Pilgrim, Don Jon & 21 Jump St), Manhunter, MagnoliaLaw Abiding CitizenIron Man 3 (has Kiss Kiss Bang Bang & RDJ links), Good Night & Good Luck, Spiderman HomecomingBeing John Malkovich, Capote, 40 Year-Old VirginMonster (has all Theron mentioned plus Prometheus & Die in the West links), X-Men Days of Future Past (also link for 1st Class), 10 Cloverfield Lane, Red State, Barton Fink (also Coens I: Raising AZ link), Star Trek Beyond, Halloween.

BTW:  Steve Lopez STILL writes about Nathaniel Ayers!  lookey here -

Episode #223: Wunderkind

November 13th, 2017
  • Leon (The Professional) (Natalie Portman)/
  • Firestarter (Drew Barrymore)/
  • I Am Sam (Dakota Fanning)/

Often times people speak up about annoying kids (why do you think we haven't done Six-String Samurai yet?! [Also, is there such a thing as too many parentheses?]), but do we always hear about kids when they do an amazing job?  The Triforce is here to fill that void for you by spanning the decades & genres in this episode.  Who did it best?  Take a listen, find out!!

Episode #191: Flubisode IV - Live Free or Flub Hard

August 15th, 2016

The time for mistakes is upon you!!  Never heard us screw up, you say?  Well then, you have more episodes to seek out on the Podbean.com page!

As the struggle of schedules, guests, and locations continues, it seemed the right moment to hit you with an overdue Flubs episode.  The clips here go all the way back to episode 152, so you've got plenty of Chris & David along with some guest host bits from the last year & change.

Just to keep us honest, there were only 88 clips to be wrangled into this tasty mess-up meal.  Don't spoil your dinner and tell your friends!  But tell them to listen to other episodes before listening to this one...  This isn't the place to nurture a new person's love for us.

For those who adore the fails & extras - here are the 1st 3 flubisodes: 4898151.

- One of the longest 'unknown noise' moments is actually stomach grumbling, just in case anyone imagines something more sinister.

Here's a clip for most of us who don't know/remember who the hell Robert Vaughn is: Magnificent Seven  Vaughn speaks at 1:30.
also - here's an interview & some lawyer commercials:  Vaughn 2

Episode # 190: 3 Degrees of Anton Yelchin

July 30th, 2016

GUEST HOST:  BOB FOSTER

  • Odd Thomas/
  • House of D/
  • Alpha Dog/

Ahoy comrades!!  Today we pay tribute to another fallen star.  We already wanted to talk about these movies, and this was a great yet tragic way to link them.  At 27, Yelchin has contributed a great deal with the few dozen movies he did.  We've covered his excellence in the Fright Night remake episode.  Only so much to say here - just listen to the episode as we swoon over this young talent makin' da magic!

Notes:
Upon looking at Zelda Williams again - she is in fact Melissa, the main girl that Tommy is pursuing in the film.  She does an awesome job.

We neglected to mention when discussing the modern Universal monster movies:  DON'T watch Wolman, either!!  Love for Anthony Hopkins or Benicio del Toro will not make this movie enjoyable.  Trust us.

Here's the only version of the Key & Peele sketch to be found:  'magical negro'

Hey!!  SNL caught up with the internet!! here's DD as Goldblum:  celeb jeopardy

We found the cake cartoon (better than the original scene):  you want this cake

We never mentioned the Ratings, which we don't really side with (esp. the critics):

Odd Thomas:  IMDB - 69%, Rotten Tomatoes - critic 34%, audience 65%

House of D:  IMDB - 70%, Rotten Tomatoes - critic 10%, audience 73%

Alpha Dog:  IMDB - 67%, Rotten Tomatoes - critic 55%, audience 67%

For the hardcores still reading down here - the girl Matt couldn't remember is Dominique Swain:  Travolta's daughter in Face/Off...  which is half-blocked outta Matt's mind (can you guess which half?).  You'll see her whether we talk about her or not; she has 600 films in post right now.

Episode # 189: TVsode I

July 23rd, 2016

What's this you ask??  It's a bit o' TV Time!!

While setting up for a delayed episode, we opted to give you a slice of what we watch when we aren't doin' flicks for you lovely folks.  The majority of these shows are in fact Netflix original content, as they have been leading the pack in creating original ideas and remaking a thing or two that failed.  There are some cable shows mentioned also that Matt recently finished (Echo Base didn't quite get to finishing SOA together).  This decade is fast becoming a new Golden Age of television-style serial shows.

INTRO/OUTRO:  Death Bed Confession - get their stuff on iTunes, Spirit, Google Play, Pandora.  Awesome band from Denver!!

BTW, Chris & Matt are working through the 3rd Season of Arrow.  Chris couldn't get through the Flash, but Matt really dug it (it's worth getting through the 1st half for the 2nd half of the 1st season).  Like Netflix, the 2 shows have different tones, so it doesn't feel like the same show with different costumes (except the certain writing moments when it does ;) ).

EDIT 8/21: Matt finished Arrow S3 - a nice ramp-up over the season; he almost gave up, glad he didn't.  He also finished Stranger Things & it is greeeaaaatt!!!  Stick it through for the 2nd half.

Here is Rachel Bloom's video:  F*ck Me Ray Bradbury

Here is the filthy Deadwood vid:  CS

Thankfully, someone also put the Robot Chicken clips together: White Wine

Episode # 186: Marvel Chapter 2 - X-Men 1st Class

June 10th, 2016

Morevel!!  MorX-Men!!

This week, we take you down the path where the Fox lives.  As it lives, it chokes out so much potential from various franchises & series.  Is it better now than it was when they took hold of Xmen nearly 20 years ago (we know, right?!) ?  Put on some leather & spandex and tune in to find out...  We will say up front that the newer Xmen films have managed to attach new faces to characters that we can love (Lawrence, Fass & Mac).

Apocalypse thoughts.  Matt had fun and liked Oscar Isaac's performance better than the trailers.  Characters were under-used; if we look at ladies, Civil War did it better.  His take was that Marvel lapped itself in the month of May, but really they lapped Fox.

While spending less than Marvel for CA Civil War (see our thoughts in the write-up for the last episode below), it made about 1/3 in its opening weekend.

Mad Max:  Fury Road (fully discussed in #163!!)/
Jurassic World/
Terminator Genysis (now further discussed in #242!!)/
Ant-Man/
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation/
Straight Outta Compton (now fully discussed in #180!!)/
Ex Machina (now fully discussed in #236!!)/

*also a bit of TV hero talk - not something we do a lot..*

We mention Pitch Perfect 2 & Tomorrowland, though we had not seen them.

Another blockbuster parade has come & gone.  Now we deliver to you our list of what made this summer worth watching.  While having its fair share of strikes & gutters, this year nevertheless delivered.

Marvel is now in full swing and the other studios are frantically striving to touch that high water mark.  One could argue that there’s never been a better time to be a movie goer.  Action, sci-fi, adventure, drama, intrigue, heist & heart alike;  Heck, even a Jedi will crave these things come the end of the year!  We sluts be fans.
What are we fans of all we discuss, you ask?

Well, tune in & find out.  Come on, dooo ittt!! Listen, we're heeere!!

Episode #168: Post Traumatized Sluts

August 29th, 2015

It's one "crazy" episode this week as Chris and guest-star Dani (his wife) jump on their little gas powered scooter and navigate the side streets of the human psyche.  Now, while Sandler has indeed garnered accolades for his stellar performance in PTA's Punch Drunk Love, few know of this week's gem.

Considering the lackluster trailer that the studio put out for this (making it look like a silver medal'd re-awokened bromance, rather than the real deal it is), we're not surprised that most people didn't get a chance to screen it.  Luckily for you all, we snatched it off the dusty DVD shelf and delved deep to deliver a stark, appreciatory episode. We hope you have as much fun listening as we did recording.

Episode #163: Action I’d Rather Watch

June 14th, 2015
Carnage & chrome abound as we scream from the internet rooftop our love of the ever-evolving modern-day "Action" movie.  As children of the 70's & 80's, sometimes it's difficult for us avoid the obvious comparisons (we're looking at you, Jason Momoa Conan).  However, we can still be surprised, and this week's choices certainly knocked the wind outta all four of our lungs.
As a versus-style episode, this one is more about the strong suits of each to guide you toward what you might prefer (though you should have already watched both, you slackers).  Do Chris & I agree??  Listen & find out!  Then write in and tell what we said; we already forgot..  'cause we're busy watchin' these movies again.

Hardcore note:  The 'get outta my car' is from the Hoff.  Here is the full glory of that video for those who have missed his renaissance.  Also, here is a Henry Rollins clip that we almost used for that moment..  classic Hank.  Here is totally classic Winger for those interested.

Episode #153: Our Helen Keller Tribute

January 18th, 2015
Disabilities be damned this week as we deliver an episode complete with comedy, romance & swashbuckling bravado.  We try to be the Three Wise Sluts (though there are only 2 of us - & we're not apes exactly).  We wanted to cover a wide range with our salute, and what with the heavy subject matter, we hope you approve of our selections.  As all were products of the later 80's, "political correctness" was an underdog; filmmakers/comedians were able to skirt the lines of bad/good taste with, shall we say, broader strokes.
Let's just hope that we do these justice.  Please do offer suggestions if you feel these did not hit the topic just right.  Also, here is a link to the prison play sketch we referred to for Richard Pryor.
