Episode #207: Hatorade Xtreme Flavor: Transformers

March 25th, 2017

GUEST HOST:  CHRIS FRED!!

Featured Art:  Jeffrey Veregge.  Buy T-shirts with some of his art here!!  https://shop.fingersduke.com/collections/jeffrey-veregge?page=1

The intended 1st segment for the previous episode, the venom was in buckets which led it to become its own beast.  After hundreds of movies, we finally let loose on a flick from the Bay shelf - the only one we can really stand to talk about (other than the rock, here's that episode link!).  With so much love for the original Transformers movie (that link here!) & series, we were so PRIMEd to love it.  Alas, Mizzle Bizzle makes it hard to enjoy anything retooled with his equipment.  Chris also give almost 2 cents on Equilibrium, & 6 or 7 cents on Apatow.

Links:  Bay - The Rock.  John Turturro - Coens II, III.  Tyrese Gibson - Flight of Phoenix

Notes:  Matt was wrong about F7.  It was in the top 10 highest-gross of all time, which we still think is a bit sad.  It wasn't the U.S. that thought so, however - we were about 20% of the total in ticket sales.  Action as a uniform medium for an international audience heavily affects the modern blockbuster market.  The main reason we won't see another Independence Day film:  no one cared in the overseas market...   Here's the top 100 to make you happy and sad.

Matt meant to mention the Audi-geddon in Capt. Amer. Civil War.  Nearly every car in it is an Audi, but at least you have to look to notice...

Episode # 189: TVsode I

July 23rd, 2016

What's this you ask??  It's a bit o' TV Time!!

While setting up for a delayed episode, we opted to give you a slice of what we watch when we aren't doin' flicks for you lovely folks.  The majority of these shows are in fact Netflix original content, as they have been leading the pack in creating original ideas and remaking a thing or two that failed.  There are some cable shows mentioned also that Matt recently finished (Echo Base didn't quite get to finishing SOA together).  This decade is fast becoming a new Golden Age of television-style serial shows.

INTRO/OUTRO:  Death Bed Confession - get their stuff on iTunes, Spirit, Google Play, Pandora.  Awesome band from Denver!!

BTW, Chris & Matt are working through the 3rd Season of Arrow.  Chris couldn't get through the Flash, but Matt really dug it (it's worth getting through the 1st half for the 2nd half of the 1st season).  Like Netflix, the 2 shows have different tones, so it doesn't feel like the same show with different costumes (except the certain writing moments when it does ;) ).

EDIT 8/21: Matt finished Arrow S3 - a nice ramp-up over the season; he almost gave up, glad he didn't.  He also finished Stranger Things & it is greeeaaaatt!!!  Stick it through for the 2nd half.

Here is Rachel Bloom's video:  F*ck Me Ray Bradbury

Here is the filthy Deadwood vid:  CS

Thankfully, someone also put the Robot Chicken clips together: White Wine

Episode #184: Star Wars: Jedi

May 15th, 2016
Return of the Jedi

We close the book on the SW saga (the parts that matter most to us, that is).  At least until new stuff comes out.  We love Mads Mikkelsen you may remember (did you hear that Mads Episode?), so Rogue One may require a segment in the future not so long ago.  We continue to talk about the fandom surrounding this trilogy.  One thing we didn't mention was the change of the original ewok song, which we love!

Have a SW story you'd like to share?:  Email us (cinemasluts@gmail.com) or post on the Cinema Triforce page on Facebook.

If the Wars ain't your thing, sweat it not.  Next Week - we tread into Marvel territory for a bit.  Strange that they're both Disney properties now...  so far, that hasn't mattered.  Maybe George Lucas provided the perfect lesson for leaving your art alone once it is out in the world..  the story is no longer yours, and the public responds compared to the source material - not the author.

The only episode referenced here is Batman for Billie Dee Williams.

Here's the Robot Chicken clip:  Best of Boba
Here is the 7-Up guy that sounds like Vader:  the Uncola

Also, here's an auralnauts clip:  Ep 3 Revenge of Middle Mgmt
We mentioned the vader sessions in this section, but linked it on the Hope/Empire episode (as these were going to be a single episode before we got to a'ramblin').

While we're mad with hyperlink power, here more auralnauts:  Kylo Ren Outtakes

A hardcore note for the hardcore listeners:  Matt realized while editing that David was doing a yoda impression, not Miss Piggy (also Frank Oz) - though the Pulp Fiction line was still out there!  It's Baby Time!! Baby Baby Time!!!

Episode #183: Star Wars: Hope & Empire

April 30th, 2016

Episodes IV & V  (VI will be the next episode)

Finally what some of you have been waiting for - a look at the sleeper hit series of the 70's & 80's.  Even those who have avoided seeing Star Wars films cannot deny how enTRENCHed they are in the social psyche.  Apparently they mean so much to us that we couldn't wrangle them into a single episode!

This may feel a bit different, as there is a significance beyond just viewing the films.  With this & the upcoming episode, we discuss some of the social phenomena along with personal experiences surrounding the films.

With few small exceptions, we actually don't spoil it for those who may opt to watch them after hearing us babble on about them..  we won't FORCE anyone to see them, of course.

Naturally, we used as many opportunities to include songs from the late great Prince - a terrible loss to powerful, lasting music coming from a man unafraid of looking and being exactly what he wanted..

Here is the video for the song we used in the outro - ragtime cantina.

Here is the link for Vader Sessions.

Episode #176: Sound Check-isode

January 17th, 2016

- No particular movies, but there is a moment or two about Star Wars (no spoilers) -

Along with Star Wars, we spoke of a few things out at the end of the year.  Catch some smatterings/recommendations for CreedThe RevanentThe Hateful 8.
A degree or two from a flubisode, we spent some time making sure the new setup worked after a bad audio file made our job super hard in editing.  This episode is essentially a spontaneous conversation, but also a peak into how it makes sense that we do this podcast about movies (and maybe not some of the provocative things we discuss here..) .  We gave it an introduction so you don't feel like you were dropped in the deep end.  The 'outro' risked being as long as the original file once we got going!
The same love went into putting this together, so we hope it feels like it belongs among the rest.  Enjoy!
Not quite deleted material, not quite behind the scenes, you may yet come away with some value from listening to our ranting.  Heck, you're here and read along this far, right??

Episode #173: Mystery Science Theater 3000 x 3

December 6th, 2015
Guest Host:  David Biehn!!
  • /Eegah
  • /Space Mutiny
  • /Quest of the Delta Knights
The Triforce has always avoided direct discussion of TV shows to date (though tell us if that interests you: cinemasluts@gmail.com ), but MST3K as it is known to many is the middle of the road.  It was on TV, but they watched movies..
David is a fellow MSTie & devout fan of their offshoots since the show ended in 1999.  It seemed the right time & he the right guest to talk of the tube.  MST always did Turkey Day marathons, so this year we had our own.  This one may feel a bit strange as we are chronicling the history of the series, but hey - less actor/production bio talk!!  Enjoy our tribute to a unique show with just the kinda sick (yet safe for cable) & silly humor we love.
By the way, as if we didn't they think were cool enough, Shout Factory has put many full episodes on Youtube with annotations for what the references/jokes are from!!  Here are links for full MST3K episodes of Mitchell and Pumaman: these were 2 of the movies considered for this episode.
Here is the link for Happy Gilmore where we're pretty certain we spoke of the cool that is Kiel.

For those who haven't heard of Turkish Star Wars (oh yeah, it is real):  here is a taste - Trailer.  The whole movie can be found on youtube.  Also here's the Australian Energizer commercial.  Streuth!!

Keeping it 100 - my folder is called "Metal served with Brown Betty & Death (but mostly Death)."

We mention Pitch Perfect 2 & Tomorrowland, though we had not seen them.

Another blockbuster parade has come & gone.  Now we deliver to you our list of what made this summer worth watching.  While having its fair share of strikes & gutters, this year nevertheless delivered.

Marvel is now in full swing and the other studios are frantically striving to touch that high water mark.  One could argue that there’s never been a better time to be a movie goer.  Action, sci-fi, adventure, drama, intrigue, heist & heart alike;  Heck, even a Jedi will crave these things come the end of the year!  We sluts be fans.
What are we fans of all we discuss, you ask?

Well, tune in & find out.  Come on, dooo ittt!! Listen, we're heeere!!

Episode #156: More Robot Than Robot

March 8th, 2015
With CHAPPiE hitting theaters this week, it seemed the perfect time to roll out our "Robotics" episode!  A topic that's captivated readers & audiences for generations, mechanoids gone monsters often reflect how humanity has or may go wrong.  Are these the droid movies you're looking for?  The answer is yes:  3 different decade & budget perspectives on the possibilities & the dangers that come with them.
If you haven't already, go waaayy back to check out Frtiz Lang's masterpiece Metropolis
After that, check out Rahzel (who we referred to randomly) from The Roots.  After THAT, look at this alternate Short Circuit series trailer.
Correction:  we forgot to mention the actual skydiving movie the Short Circuit writing duo did - Drop Zone with Wesley Snipes.
