A tasty batch of film delights from Japan, with one venturing beyond to tell a Russian tale.

Episode #249: Our SNIKT to Stan I

November 20th, 2018
  • The Wolverine

Welp - We reckon it's bound to happen that Marvel movie talks run long.  It happened before & here we are again.  The good news:  you're gonna hear a lot about Stan Lee's good works over the next 3 weeks.  The bad news:  you'll have to wait to see what the other 2 movies are (though it shouldn't be hard to guess).  Enjoy our 1st of 3 excavations into the Major Man of Marvel that has brought us so much joy, entertainment, and thought-provoking narratives through superhero allegory.  This one ends abruptly as it was SUPPOSED to just be 1 episode..  we opted out of further recording to just push this baby out before the other triplets come.

Links:  Ottman, Hurt Locker (Beltrami)

Notes:  Matt hit a triple-oopsie with Ben Foster, messing up the title for Panic Room - which is also Leto, not Foster, then mixing up Firewall with Hostage.  This is why we take notes so we don't screw up on the fly!  The Total Recall we are cutting down is the remake, not the original.  This IS Rila Fukushima's 1st film!  ooh ooh - Matt also screwed up the shakuhachi flute for the shamisen that the Yoshida Brothers use.  Negative points all around!

Episode #248: Afro Samurai

November 5th, 2018

This series finds a few ways to be outside of the box.  Some severe imagery, novel fusions of era/genre, topped with unique characters of both original & traditional design.  The combination may not suit all, but those who enjoy it are likely to be in deep.

To show the degree of approval, Matt has argued this series over Cowboy Bebop as he doesn't enjoy Eddie; it was argued in return that attempting to have all characters be the cool characters doesn't always work.  He does need to watch Bebop again, though.

This link is a quick read on the predator dynamic with deer populations & wolves.  We could find the local town version of the situation.

Episode #191: Flubisode IV - Live Free or Flub Hard

August 15th, 2016

The time for mistakes is upon you!!  Never heard us screw up, you say?  Well then, you have more episodes to seek out on the Podbean.com page!

As the struggle of schedules, guests, and locations continues, it seemed the right moment to hit you with an overdue Flubs episode.  The clips here go all the way back to episode 152, so you've got plenty of Chris & David along with some guest host bits from the last year & change.

Just to keep us honest, there were only 88 clips to be wrangled into this tasty mess-up meal.  Don't spoil your dinner and tell your friends!  But tell them to listen to other episodes before listening to this one...  This isn't the place to nurture a new person's love for us.

For those who adore the fails & extras - here are the 1st 3 flubisodes: 4898151.

- One of the longest 'unknown noise' moments is actually stomach grumbling, just in case anyone imagines something more sinister.

Here's a clip for most of us who don't know/remember who the hell Robert Vaughn is: Magnificent Seven  Vaughn speaks at 1:30.
also - here's an interview & some lawyer commercials:  Vaughn 2

Episode #184: Star Wars: Jedi

May 15th, 2016
Return of the Jedi

We close the book on the SW saga (the parts that matter most to us, that is).  At least until new stuff comes out.  We love Mads Mikkelsen you may remember (did you hear that Mads Episode?), so Rogue One may require a segment in the future not so long ago.  We continue to talk about the fandom surrounding this trilogy.  One thing we didn't mention was the change of the original ewok song, which we love!

Have a SW story you'd like to share?:  Email us (cinemasluts@gmail.com) or post on the Cinema Triforce page on Facebook.

If the Wars ain't your thing, sweat it not.  Next Week - we tread into Marvel territory for a bit.  Strange that they're both Disney properties now...  so far, that hasn't mattered.  Maybe George Lucas provided the perfect lesson for leaving your art alone once it is out in the world..  the story is no longer yours, and the public responds compared to the source material - not the author.

The only episode referenced here is Batman for Billie Dee Williams.

Here's the Robot Chicken clip:  Best of Boba
Here is the 7-Up guy that sounds like Vader:  the Uncola

Also, here's an auralnauts clip:  Ep 3 Revenge of Middle Mgmt
We mentioned the vader sessions in this section, but linked it on the Hope/Empire episode (as these were going to be a single episode before we got to a'ramblin').

While we're mad with hyperlink power, here more auralnauts:  Kylo Ren Outtakes

A hardcore note for the hardcore listeners:  Matt realized while editing that David was doing a yoda impression, not Miss Piggy (also Frank Oz) - though the Pulp Fiction line was still out there!  It's Baby Time!! Baby Baby Time!!!

Episode #176: Sound Check-isode

January 17th, 2016

- No particular movies, but there is a moment or two about Star Wars (no spoilers) -

Along with Star Wars, we spoke of a few things out at the end of the year.  Catch some smatterings/recommendations for CreedThe RevanentThe Hateful 8.
A degree or two from a flubisode, we spent some time making sure the new setup worked after a bad audio file made our job super hard in editing.  This episode is essentially a spontaneous conversation, but also a peak into how it makes sense that we do this podcast about movies (and maybe not some of the provocative things we discuss here..) .  We gave it an introduction so you don't feel like you were dropped in the deep end.  The 'outro' risked being as long as the original file once we got going!
The same love went into putting this together, so we hope it feels like it belongs among the rest.  Enjoy!
Not quite deleted material, not quite behind the scenes, you may yet come away with some value from listening to our ranting.  Heck, you're here and read along this far, right??

Episode #164: Around the World in 80 Minutes

June 28th, 2015
Hop aboard to hear of international fare as your globe trottin' sluts cruise the world in our official Cinema Triforce "Self-Sustaining Hot-Air" balloon. (Get it?  'Cause we talk a lot and we're full of hot air...right?)

Tired of American movies & reality, we outsourced our topic to save money and sanity.  Our wanderlust took us from 中华 (China) to भारत (India) and finally came to a halt in Norge (Norway).  With such an eclectic blend of cinema, we had our work cut out for us.  We leave it to you to enjoy one hell of a fun episode.  Plus, we made extra effort not to spoil anything this week, so if you haven't - SCREEN these flicks ASAP.

PS: Trollhunter IS on Netflix.

PPS:  Happy Pride!!  Have a Coke & sing in perfect harmony, dammit!!  Actually, drink Pepsi - they are ethically a better company to support for sugar-water.

Episode #158: Remakes, East vs. West II

April 7th, 2015
The Seven Samurai -VS- The Magnificent Seven
Alright cinephiles, we come at you this week with one of the most epic comparison episodes we've completed to date.

We have already professed our love for all things Kurosawa, it is High Noon time we highlight what many consider to be his tour de force AND the westernized version that came later.  Both are formidable in their own right, but at the end of the day, only one can stand triumphant as the master of all things Seven.

Which one you ask?  Who was the victor in our summation?  Why, you've got to tune in and find out.  We don't even spoil in our episodes - so we're not spoiling the episode in our description.  I mean, REALLY!!

Music Corrections:  The Megadeth reference was actually for Holy Wars, not Hangar 18 (both great songs from a great album).  Also, in Top Secret:  the underwater bar fight ends in the Bonanza theme.

Episode #94: Remakes, East vs. West

November 23rd, 2013
  • /Yojimbo
  • /Fistful of Dollars

  • Welcome aboard Slut airlines.  Once again we are cruising at a comparison altitude of twenty-thousand-Awesome.  Our destination is set and it's coast to coast Bad-Ass-ery this week as we journey both East AND West to bring you a set of sublime superheroes with a penchant for perplexity, pain & pot stirring.  Do buckle up, we're expecting a Fierce Ty-Fune from the East Woods.

Vague, you say?  Not at all, we reply!  'Cause once you've cracked the whip on these two flicks, you'll see just what we were talking about.  Our only regret with this episode is that our two stars never had the chance to star opposite each other - oh, the flicks that might have been...

The captains have switched on the START-LISTENING sign, So, go ahead...make our day.
