Episode # 185: Marvel Chapter 1 - Spiderman 2
May 31st, 2016
Whelp - so much for the short discussions for the moment. We had to break up the Marvel talk into 3 episodes, as looking over the studios took up some time. Stay tuned for more over the next month.
Spiderman 2 was a powerful followup to a movie that shook the earth with staggering numbers for its theater run. Was it big, listen bud - it made 114 of 137 million back by the 1st weekend!! X-men did 54 of 75 million 2 years before on its opening. Don't let their standing reputations undo the frantic success of their comparative openings. This one made 114 of 200 million its 1st weekend & easily cleared the budget since then. How well does it hold up? Listen in & hear how we see it after more than a decade.
As for Civil War: David & Matt both felt it was a great movie that managed to balance the characters (even new ones) pretty well. The new Spiderman was fantastic & definitely Matt's favorite representation thus far. Black Panther is awesome, Boseman knocked that outta the park (catch that 42 reference, hey - we covered that in episode 159). Keep it up, Marvel proper. Apocalypse: we'll hit that next episode...
