Episode 27: Remakes for the Better 2

July 21st, 2012

The Flight of the Phoenix: 1965 clashing with 2004. Another comparative episode!  L.B. Jeff Jeffries tries to out-fly Doc Holiday.  It hasn’t been long, but the time was made nigh since we recently lost the great & almost immortal Ernest Borgnine.  We thought it appropriate to discuss something from his massive canon.  Plus, it’s a great chance to compare actors that otherwise might never have been associated with each other.

  • 1965 - James Stewart, Richard Attenborough & Hardy Kruger
  • 2004 - Dennis Quaid, Tyrese Gibson & Giovanni Ribisi

Unlike our last foray (stage play to movie) this IS an actual remake.  Although drawn from the same screenplay, they each provide impressive substance & reflection of their contemporary culture.   Both need to be seen; it doesn’t matter which version becomes your favorite.  The performances are enough to do it again.  We compare, we contrast and we even get in a few Jimmy Stewart jokes, so thank you again for flying Cinema Slut airlines.  Please strap in & hold on to your butts… it’s gonna be a bumpy ride.
