As our 1st year of service to movie lovers comes to a close, we reflect on what we've learned about the world and ourselves. We've also learned that we are not awesome all the time; some of that time we are recording so there is footage of our faltering.
This was to be a light episode, but we actually have more than 3 times the amount needed for this segment which forced us to pick which child would jump first and required a lot of sifting. We tried to grab what may be funny - if not informative - to those outside our studio to see the human side of the sluts. We never claimed to be perfect, and this is proof positive. Metaphorically, we're exposing ourselves in granny panties on laundry day. It may not be sliced bread in your ear, but you might enjoy some moments when we were less than perfect.
Note - the audio quality suffers for a few seconds once in a while as we or our guests dropped below recording level to adjust or regather, not considering we'd ever use this against ourselves. They are brief but we know they are there and hope to have ways to work around the limitations in the future.
6 seasons (years) and a movie...

The podcast stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little & it will fail to the ruin of all. But hope remains while the audience is true.
Hoo boy did we span some genres this week! From the historical to the existential, we wanted to highlight the range that this amazing lady possesses. She is indeed a force of nature unto herself & we've got the evidence to prove it.
- The Life Aquatic
- Notes on a Scandal
Oh, and go see the Hobbit - she's in that briefly, too! Also watch the Lord of the Rings movies (possibly again) - she's amazing in those. We defy you to come up with a movie where she delivers a bad performance. Good luck.

Today fat folk are mostly made funny through zany exaggerated moves or kicks in the crotch. John Candy blazed a trail where comedy had little to do with looks or size. A big man with a big heart, his movies can still make you laugh and marvel at how he went about being funny. The hardest decision for this episode was picking 3 movies. You should see everything he did, but until your schedules open up these are the 3 we think you should have already watched:
- Uncle Buck
- the Great Outdoors
- Planes, Trains & Automobiles
By proxy, this is a back-burner salute to John Hughes as he wrote and/or directed these. What can we say, he knew what he was doing. If you've watched them once, you've probably watched them dozens of times. The feel of these films is nearly as potent as the day they came out; the clothing or music might change, but the true content continues to be priceless. It's bobsled time...

We decided on a whim to do this as a 180 from holiday fluff. The issue - you can't always pencil in 9 hours of viewing in a week; plus probably another 10 of features. This will be the 1st of a series dealing in Coppola's trilogy. Others will probably fit this profile also, but this dead lift of a story will suffice to set you back a few steps while expanding your movie horizon with really bad eggs.
An early anti-hero, Al Pacino is more charming than he should be in the film that put many things (and careers) in motion. Come back for seconds & pile your plate high with some carnage ravioli... and Spam. Not the email, the food. Well, kind of food. Just - enjoy the movie talk. Perhaps over food.
P.S. - we'll spoil your feast later, but only after all courses are covered.

Ladies and gentlemen. Ladies and gentlemen. We don’t care whose ire we provoke, us SLUTS love us the Holidays. Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah or Yule… we be some festive Droogs!
So grab some nog, your favorite blanket, curl up by the fire & help us usher in this holiday season with our choice selections of flicks.
- The Ref
- National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
- Die Hard
We did this early for your holiday viewing and input - so please give us ideas for a 2nd round at Xmas time if that's your bag. If we don't get input (Stephanie, re-assemble) then we'll assume these are enough for the season as far as this topic. There are other shows for December, but the decision for more of this lies in your court. Swing away Merrills!!!
