Episode #159: History on the Screen

April 19th, 2015
It's been little over a year since we last delved into history via cinema.  What was intended to be one episode evolved into a triptych of awesome (#102#103 & #105assisted in no small part by our friend Brandon.  Only one of those was history-based (102 about Malcolm X); all three movies come from U.S. history this time.  Plus, Selma is a nice answer to Malcolm X.

Trying to be brief, we were able to "stay on target" and cover our three choices without falling down the rabbit hole.  As in not talking so darned long..

We leave you with a nice MLK zinger, even if you skip this episode (but you know, um, don't...)  :

"We must live together as brothers or perish together as fools."

P.S.  Here is the Leeroy Jenkins clip.  His mistake is at about 0:25 and the specific reference is at about 1:00-1:10.

Here is the Cheerios ad reaction.  If you won't sit through the whole thing - after the 1st part, skip to 4:47 where a black kid talks about how uncomfortable he is 'joking' with his white friends.
